Fancy playing a game that, in its time, was banned by no fewer than seven kings and queens, including Henry VIII? Sounds as though it must be illegal, but no, it's crown green bowls and it's no longer thought ofd as an ald man's game; every age group play now - 9-90 years.
We are currently looking for new members; any age, beginners or experience, male or female. Beginners can start bowliing socially when the green is free and some of our members will help if you need it. You can have your own key and play when you want and experienced bowlers can join one of our teams.
It's really laid back; no pressure and there's nothing nicer on a summer evening to get your woods out, get a drink from the bar and have a few ends of bowls - a relaxing end to the usual stressful day.
No need to buy your own woods straight away; use ours until you find you are going to get on with the game.
No need for any uniform; this is crown green bowls - the 'flat cap and ferrets' variety (no, you don't have to dash out and buy a ferret, that was a joke, and the flat cap is optional. Just flat shoes (trainers, etc.)
We have two Saturday afternoon teams, two 'Over 55s' Wednesday afternoon teams, one Wednesday evening doubles team and one Thursday evening ladies team.
This leaves plenty of time for social bowling on free afternoons and eveings so come and try this lovely old English game to whatever standard you want.
